PA-Semi, le fondateur sur le départ ?

Dan Dobberpuhl, fondateur et ancien responsable exécutif de PA-Semi, le concepteur de puces racheté par Apple serait sur le départ. Selon CNet, qui rapporte l'information de « sources multiples », il devrait rejoindre un autre ancien de PA-Semi chez Agnilux, une start-up de San Jose qui s'estime, elle-même, « dans sa phase de formation ».

Le mouvement semble d'ailleurs nettement plus large : selon le New-York Times une demi-douzaine d'anciens de PA-Semi auraient suivi le même chemin depuis l'acquisition par Apple. Bien sûr, tout le monde reste muet quant à ses motivations au départ. Mais il y a indéniablement matière à s'interroger, d'autant qu'on estimait, il y a peu, qu'Apple visait, en rachetant l'entreprise, autant les brevets que les cerveaux.

Ca toujours été le risque quand on rachéte une entreprise : voir le personnel se barrer et se retrouver à n'avoir acquis que les biens matériels et immatériels (+ le carnet d'adresse).

Colère d'iPapy ? Ou pas, peut-être que c'est juste pas "trop top génial" d'être employé Apple, et qu'ils regrettaient juste leur status d'entreprise indépendante prometteuse !

Apple, c'est pas le paradis hein !

Ne pas oublier que PA Semi c'était un concepteur de Silicium autour du PowerPC et ARM.

Les techs pointus ont peut être trouvé que se contenter d'un remodelage d'un Cortex A9 voir plutôt un dementelage de cette puce pour gagner quelques micro watts n'était pas hyper motivant ou novateur.

Par que la puce d'Apple dans l'iPad ne revolutionne pas grand chose dans le monde ARM.

Et si les cerveaux quittent le navire, on risque de n'avoir que des évolutions mineures de design de référence ARM.

It's no secret that Google's been on something of a shopping spree as of late, buying startups left for right like it was trying to win the final round of Supermarket Sweep. This latest one's a bit more interesting, though. Agnilux was borne of former PA Semi / Apple engineers, and its director of application software, Scott Redman, used to be a software architect at TiVo -- basically, it's got some talent behind it, and although no projects have ever been announced, the New York Times suggested back in February that "some kind of server" was being made, and there was a partnership with Cisco that we'd assume has now gone the wayside. At any rate, the company -- and probably more important, the employees -- now seem to be the property of Google, who could probably use a few good server men and women in pretty much all aspects of the company.
